Creating a course can seem like a big project, but let’s break it down into manageable steps so you can make real progress—without the overwhelm.

Step 1: Start with Your Course Outline

Don’t overcomplicate it. 

Decide the Modules.

Keep it simple and focused by basing your outline on these two questions:

• What’s the big transformation or goal you want your students to achieve when done with your course?
• What are the key steps or milestones they need to get there?

Once you’ve answered these questions, you’ve got your modules listed.

Next, break Down Each Milestone into Lessons

Think of each module as a chapter in a book. The lessons are the individual pages that help your students progress toward that milestone.

Here’s a simple process to structure your lessons:

1. Ask Yourself:

• What does my student need to learn or do to achieve this milestone?
• What steps must they take to build confidence and progress?
• What tools, knowledge, or exercises will help them at this stage?

2. Create Bite-Sized Lessons

• Break down the information into smaller, digestible chunks.
• Aim for one actionable point per lesson.
• Keep lessons concise—think 5-15 minutes for videos or easily scannable text for written lessons.

Example:

Module: Crafting Your Offer

• Lesson 1: Identify Your Ideal Client
• Lesson 2: Define the Transformation You Provide
• Lesson 3: Set Your Pricing and Positioning
• Lesson 4: Map Out the Delivery Process

No fancy tools required—pen and paper will do the trick!

Step 2: Focus on ONE Format

Take a moment to think about your FAVORITE way to deliver information.

Are you a natural writer, or a verbal processor? Do you love making visuals like powerpoints, or are you more of a ‘hit record and talk it through’ kind of person? Do you not want to be on camera?  Record your voice over the slides!  

Answering these questions will help you decide on what format you should focus on.

Pro Tip: You can always add bells and whistles like audio, quizzes, or live components later. 

Right now, it’s about getting your ideas out there and ready to help your audience.

Step 3: Don’t Wait for Perfection

Here’s the truth: Your first course doesn’t need to be perfect.

What matters most:

• Does it deliver on the outcome above to help your students solve a problem or achieve a goal?
• Is it actionable and clear?

Launch it, gather feedback, and tweak as you go.
